Tyson the European Eagle Owl

(Bubo bubo)

About Tyson

Tyson belonged to a family who loved her. When the family were unable to provide enough aviary space to house her, we were asked if we could look after her at the centre. Tyson is a lovely owl who likes some fuss, but also likes to tell you who's boss!

Description of the European Eagle Owl

The largest species of owl in the world, this owl has prominent ear tufts and vivid orange eyes. It has buff-brown upper-parts, heavily marked with black and a grey(ish) facial disk. Under-parts paler buff-brown with black streaks and a white throat. The colour of these owls varies depending on location, becoming paler as you move eastwards in the northern parts of the range up to western Siberia, then progressively darker to Pacific coast. The size of the bird also decreases throughout Europe from East to West, and North to South.
